KENNEBUNK – When Amy Tyson opens the doors and windows and uses her new, Italian-made hearthstone oven at Boulangerie: A Proper Bakery in downtown Kennebunk, the aroma of freshly baked bread drifting through town in the morning may be the only “open for business” sign she needs.
Tyson has been “practicing” for opening day in recent weeks, and the sights and aroma have already drawn many eager on-lookers anxious for a first sampling of the traditional baked goods served fresh daily beginning on May 15.
The building at 5 Nasons Court that once housed the Old House Parts Company has been transformed into a full-scale bakery with the efficiencies of a modern kitchen, and the rustic charm of an old New England barn.
Amy and her husband Zachary Tyson will be offering a full menu of fresh breads, including whole wheat, white, baguette, dinner rolls, and Amy’s favorite, sourdough.
While there will be decadent fresh pastries, as well as coffee, beer and wine on the menu, the star of the show will be the bread, said Amy Tyson.
“The bread is the feature. Everything we offer food-wise will showcase the bread.”
